The holiday season means more people will be travelling to see friends and family. Between mid-December and the first week of January, we’ll have more flights at Halifax Stanfield, which may require extra time to arrive, park, check-in and clear security. If you, like thousands of others have plans to take to the skies this holiday season, take a look at these handy tips:

  1. Check on the status of your flight BEFORE leaving home.

There are lots of factors that can impact an airline’s schedule, one of those being inclement weather here or elsewhere. To stay up to date on your flight, use your handy mobile device (or desktop) to get the latest information from your airline before heading out the door.

  1. Driving? Pick from a variety of parking options.

If you’re going to park your car at the airport while you’re away, plan ahead and select the best option for your needs. You can choose from the terminal building parkade, the exterior parking lot, or the Park’N Fly lot, with complimentary shuttle service to the terminal. Each have their own unique price point and benefits.

  1. Take advantage of arriving early and get that last-minute shopping done.

There’ll be more flights during the holiday season, averaging more than 10,000 passengers per day, which may create longer lines at airline check-in counters and security screening. Arrive early and take the opportunity to find the perfect last-minute gift for your loved ones at our unique retail shops.

  1. Be prepared for security screening.

Our partners at the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) are responsible for passenger and baggage screening. They work hard to screen passengers as quickly and as safely as possible, but did you know there are things you can do to make the screening process easier? Take some time to understand what is, and isn’t allowed in your carry-on baggage, like wrapped gifts, by checking their website.

Current CATSA wait times at Halifax Stanfield can be found on the CATSA app or by clicking here. Please note that the queue fluctuates and can build quickly.
