    Packing Your Bags

    The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is responsible for security screening of passengers and their belongings. They determine what can or cannot be taken aboard an aircraft.

    For example, liquids, gels, and aerosols must be in small containers of 100 ml or less, packed together in one clear, closed, resealable plastic bag no more than 1 L in capacity.

    Each airline has different size and volume requirements for baggage. Please contact your airline directly for specific requirements and information prior to your flight.

    Carry-on Baggage

    Each airline has its own policy around the size and number of carry-on bags that are permitted on a flight. Examples of carry-on baggage include laptop bags, backpacks, purses, or briefcases.

    All carry-on baggage is screened by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) at the security checkpoint.

    For more information on size and weight limits, contact your airline directly. If your bag is too big or heavy, you will be required to check it.

    Checked Baggage

    If an item is not allowed in a carry-on bag, you can pack it in a checked bag. Each airline has its own rules around the checked baggage size, weight, and number of bags allowed for each traveller. Many airlines charge for checked baggage or limit the number of bags you can take on board.

    Each checked bag goes through a screening process and may be opened and searched as part of this process. It is quicker and easier for CATSA to inspect unlocked bags. However, if you prefer to lock your bags, click here for important information from CATSA.

    The scanner for oversized baggage can process items that fit within the 75 cm X 55 cm opening. Items that do not fit will be manually searched.

    Lost Baggage Claims

    Every precaution is taken by the airlines to ensure the safe arrival of your baggage. If you experience a problem with delayed or lost baggage, visit your airline’s baggage claim area in Arrivals (hours of operation vary).

    Short-term Baggage Storage

    Our short-term baggage storage service is temporarily unavailable until further notice. We are committed to re-opening this service as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

    Travellers can check baggage, as well as outwear and small personal belongings, in our storage facility for short periods of time (maximum of two weeks). A valid, up-to-date boarding pass is required.

    The storage facility is in the Security Office, located at the bottom of the centre tunnel. The Security Office operates Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Rates:

    • Small personal belongings (keys, coats): $5 per day
    • Carry-on baggage: $5 per day
    • Checked baggage: $10 per day
    • Oversized baggage: $15 per day

    Payment may be made by debit or credit. Cash is not accepted.

    Please note that the storage facility is not able to store the following:

    • Weapons and/or ammunition
    • Pet carriers
    • Perishable foods
